TWO alleged members of the 'Rathkeale Rovers' Traveller gang are facing extradition to the Netherlands accused of being part of the criminal network. Richard Slattery, 34, and Daniel Sheridan, 26, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court this week. They are facing charges in the Netherlands of fraud, money laundering and participating in a criminal organisation. The pair were bailed under strict conditions including surrendering their passports, not going to any international travel hubs or applying for travel documents and a surety of £5,000 and £10,000 each respectively has been lodged with the court. Both must keep their mobile phones on their person and charged and switched on 24 hours per day, while they have to report to a designated police station twice a week. Sheridan must also live and sleep at a standard home address in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, with an electronically-monitored curfew from midnight until 6am each night.

Slattery is bailed to live at a mobile home on a traveller site in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, with a 10pm until 4am electronically-monitored curfew. The Rathkeale Rovers is an umbrella name for several groups of loosely connected traveller gangs who stem from the town and travel the globe carrying out a mix of shoddy business ventures through serious organised crime. Scams range from selling counterfeit goods to bitumen scams and fraud through to drugs, tobacco smuggling and trading in illegal rhino horns. The group has been a major target for Europol. They also had members based at the controversial Dale Farm Traveller site at Crays Hill, near Basildon, Essex, and Smithy Fen at Cottenham in Cambridgeshire.
