EXCLUSIVE: Major emergency services operation lasts more than 14 hours in London Docklands after concerns for man's wellfare


A Large-scale emergency services operation carried on for more than 14 hours after a man threatened to jump from a Thameside apartment, Essex News and Investigations can reveal.

The Met Police, its river boat service, London Fire Service and London Ambulance Service, had a significant presence in Narrow Street, Docklands, east London, next to the River Thames, from about 6pm last night (November 16 2024).

Part of the plush road, whose occupants include thespian Sir Ian McKellen, was sealed off and the entrance to a block of flats was cordoned off.

According to an onlooker, one focus of the operation appeared to be an open window higher up on the block with a light on, and also on a beach area by the river.

People urged a man not to jump before a huge emergency operation was mounted with officers from the various services seen having a number of briefings in the street and pointing up at the window.

While the incident was ongoing a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police, said: “Police are on scene at a residential premises in Narrow Street, E14 following concerns for the welfare of a man at the location.

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service are in attendance and are engaging with the man.

“A police cordon is currently in place.”

After it ended a London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 6.14pm on Saturday 16 November to reports of an incident on Narrow Street, E14. 

"We sent a number of crews to the scene including three ambulance crews, incident response officers and members of our tactical response unit. 

"We treated a patient at the scene and took them to hospital."

A London Fire Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to support the Metropolitan Police Service with an incident on Narrow Street in Shadwell.

"Control Officers took the call at 6:37pm and mobilised crews from Millwall, Chelsea, Soho and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The incident was over for firefighters at 09:19am on."
