EXCLUSIVE: Met detective arrested in Germany for 'throwing pyrotechnic in balaclava at Arsenal game'

A Met Police detective could be sacked following his arrest after allegedly behaving like a football yob at an Arsenal match in Germany.

DC Gordon Irikefe is facing a professional misconduct hearing amid allegations that with his face covered he threw a pyrotechnic while in the crowd of the club's UEFA Champions League game against Bayern Munich on April 17 last year<2024>.

Irikefe is said to have been fined 100 euros over the incident at the match which the German team won by one goal to nil.

The detective, who is based within the Central South Command Unit, could face the sack or a final written warning if found guilty of gross misconduct.

A public notice published by the force ahead of the hearing on February 20 states: "DC Gordon Irikefe will answer allegations that his conduct amounted to a breach of the standards of professional behaviour, in respect of discreditable conduct.

"On 17 April 2024 DC Irikefe was arrested for wearing a full balaclava and sunglasses inside the stadium whilst off-duty at a football game in Munich. This behaviour amounted to a 'masking' offence, for which he received a fine of 100 euros.

"It is further alleged that DC Irikefe is captured on CCTV lighting and then throwing a pyrotechnic whilst in the crowd at the football game that he attended on the 17 April 2024.

"In acting in the way alleged, DC Irikefe has breached the standards of professional behaviour and this conduct, if proven, amounts to gross misconduct in that it is so serious as to justify dismissal."
