Man arrested on suspicion of murder after dramatic helicopter search over Gloucester
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a dramatic police helicopter search.
Residents in Gloucester said a helicopter scoured the city from above for much of yesterday after the death of a man at around 9am.
A 34-year-old man was found in the city last night where he was arrested on suspicion of the murder.
It followed the death of the man, aged in his 50s, who was pronounced dead at the scene in the Barton area.
The arrested man, who remains in police custody, was located following a police appeal and several hours of searching.
Road closures were put in place on Barton Street and Vauxhall Road, which was closed for most of the day and has reopened with some cordons still in place.
Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Distressed locals spotted a large police presence and saw a forensic van parked outside an address on Vauxhall Road. A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said: “Police had been called to an address in the Barton area shortly after 9am. Emergency services attended and a man aged in his 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene."
"A man currently remains in police custody. Some cordons still remain in place at the scene, but Vauxhall Road has now reopened. ""The Major Crime Investigation Team is keen to hear from anyone who has any relevant information which could assist.
"Anyone with information on what happened is asked to contact police online quoting incident 101 of July 1.
"You can also call police on 101 or provide information anonymously by calling independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online."
