EXCLUSIVE: Romanian wanted to serve child sex offence is found in the UK

A Romanian national wanted to serve a jail term for sex a minor was found in the UK.

Marian Caldararu, 28, (above) of an unknown address, was arrested under a European Arrest Warrant from Romania and taken to Westminster Magistrates' Court.

He appeared there on Boxing Day 2024 and the court heard he was arrested in respect of a "part one warrant" issued by Romania for the offences of sexual intercourse with a minor and solicitation of minors for sexual purposes. The age of consent in Romania is 16.

Caldararu consented to extradition to Romania in custody, at the hearing, and is due to be sent there.

A wanted appeal issued by police in Romania said he previously lived in Bengesti, in Gorj county, Romania.

It added that the "TG-Carbunesti Court issued the execution order in respect of a prison sentence dated June 27 2024 that he must servce for two years, three months and 29 days for "committing the offence of sexual acts with a minor."
